PRE-SCHOOL
(3-5 yr. olds)
Participation and creativity are encouraged through movement games.
These classes combine the discipline and coordination techniques of
Ballet with the freedom of creative movement. Fundamental Tap is
introduced to 5 year old classes to build awareness of rhythm.
BALLET
(6 yrs.– adult)
Class
consists of barre work, port de bras, center technique and combinations.
Ballet, the foundation of all dance forms, helps build through its
discipline a graceful, healthy body with good posture and poise. After
sufficient study of Ballet a student is advanced to pointe work.
MODERN
(teen – adult)
INTRO. TO MODERN (10 yrs. - up)
Provides
an awareness of body, increase in strength and flexibility, as well as
creativity through the enjoyment of free and lyrical movement. This
idiom encompasses many different movement styles, including techniques
derived from Horton, Limon, Dunham and Muller.
CONTEMPORARY BALLET/JAZZ (teen – adult)
A
fusion of ballet, modern and jazz, with movement ranging from
lyrical to staccato.
JAZZ
(9 yrs. - adult; Pre-Jazz
available for 7 & 8 yr. olds)
America’s gift to the world of dance. Jazz has borrowed from all other
forms of dance to develop a technique and style all its own. Classical,
Rock, MTV, Musical Theatre, Lyrical and Contemporary are but a few. In
Jazz class students will learn Jazz technique, isolations, floor
stretches, leaps, turns and dance combinations set to popular music.
Jazz students are encouraged to study Ballet.
MTV/HIP HOP
(teen - adult)
HIP HOP (10 yrs. -
up)
KIDS HIP HOP (5-9 yr. olds)
Learn the
newest MTV/Hip Hop moves in these contemporary and funky styles of Jazz.
TAP
(5 yrs. – adult)
The most
rhythmic of all dance forms. Basic steps and rhythms combined with
choreography provide the essentials necessary for complete enjoyment of
tap.
REPERTORY Performing
Groups/Ensembles
(by audition) in
Musical Theatre Dance, Contemporary Jazz, Tap or
MTV/Hip Hop will learn choreographed routines to be
presented at special performances. Groups will be offered the
opportunity to compete, if desired.
CLASS PLACEMENT: DMDC takes special care in the
placement of students. Each student will be placed in
appropriate class levels according to age and ability at the
discretion of the Director. Students may audit classes of a more
advanced level as a non-performing member of the class, at the
discretion of the Director.
